December is Holiday Safety & Mental Wellness Month

The CDC reports that in the United States everyday, there is one death every 48 minutes caused by an alcohol impaired driver. Alarmingly, in one year over 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. The CDC urges people to be safe by planning ahead during the holidays:
1)know who the designated driver will be and
2)if you notice a friend or family member impaired, take the keys!

Also, remember to keep watch on senior citizens. Visit or make a phone call. Seniors are more prone to the blues during the holiday, especially if they have lost a spouse. The Mental Health Association notes more than two million of the 34 million Americans age 65 and older suffer from some form of depression. Some tips for seniors include:
1)staying involved by volunteering somewhere,
2)exercising the mind by reading a book or doing puzzles, or
3)getting some fresh air by going for a walk!
